Bring natural stone, flowing water, and a distinctive circular design into your landscape with our Natural Bowl with Swirl Fountain Kit. Each solid stone bowl features carved swirl grooves that guide water outward from the center before it flows over the edge and returns to a concealed recirculating reservoir.

Available in three sizes, these complete fountain kits include a drilled stone bowl, appropriately sized Achelous AquaBox® fountain basin, pump, flow-control plumbing, tubing, and your choice of polished pebbles. The result is a natural-looking garden water feature without the need for an open pond.

A Natural Stone Fountain with a Distinctive Water Pattern

The carved circular grooves are what make this fountain stand apart. Water rises through the center opening, follows the swirling contours across the stone surface, and spills over the outside edge.

The low, rounded profile creates an attractive focal point in garden beds, near patios, or alongside landscape stonework. Its exposed bowl surface can also attract visiting birds and other backyard wildlife looking for water.

Because the bowl is made from real natural stone, variations in color, texture, and surface character are part of its appearance. Each fountain has its own natural details rather than an identical manufactured finish.

Before You Choose a Size

The basin is larger than the visible stone bowl. For example, the 30" bowl uses a basin measuring approximately 51.5" across. Plan for the complete basin footprint, excavation clearance, water return, and room to access the pump.

These are substantial natural stone pieces weighing approximately 240–535 pounds. Appropriate lifting equipment and experienced installation help may be needed to position the fountain safely.

Installation Planning

The fountain operates by circulating water from the hidden reservoir through the pump and up through the drilled center of the stone bowl. Water then returns across the fountain surface to the collection basin below.

Review our official Real Stone Single Fountain Kit Installation Manual before beginning. The manual provides detailed guidance for site preparation, component placement, plumbing, leveling, and startup.

Choose and Prepare the Location

Select a location with suitable water and electrical access. Allow room for the full basin footprint, excavation, and possible overspray. Locate underground utilities before digging.

Install and Level the Basin

Prepare a firm, compacted, level base and position the reservoir according to the instructions for your basin size. Maintain access to the pump and plumbing.

Position the Bowl and Connect Plumbing

Install the supplied pump, tubing, and flow-control components according to the manual. Carefully position the heavy stone bowl and confirm that the fountain is level and securely supported.

Fill, Test, and Finish

Fill the reservoir with clean water, connect the pump to a properly protected GFCI outlet, and adjust the water flow. Once the system is operating correctly, finish the visible basin area with the included polished pebbles.

Maintaining Your Stone Bowl Fountain

  • Maintain the water level. Check and replenish the basin as needed. Evaporation, wind, and splash affect how frequently water must be added.
  • Keep the pump clean. Inspect the intake and pre-filter for leaves, sediment, and accumulated debris. Disconnect power before servicing.
  • Adjust the water flow. Use the included valve to achieve the desired appearance while limiting unnecessary splash beyond the basin.
  • Prepare for freezing weather. For areas experiencing prolonged freezing conditions, our Real Stone Fountain manual recommends removing the pump and storing it in water where it cannot freeze. The manual also recommends leaving water in the installed reservoir during winter and allows the stone fountain to remain outdoors.
  • Refresh the system in spring. After thawing, clean accumulated debris, replace the basin water, inspect the pump, and restart the fountain according to the maintenance instructions.

Automatic Water-Level Control

Our optional Fountain Basin Auto Fill Kit can help maintain the reservoir's water level as water is lost through evaporation and splash.

This accessory requires an appropriate water supply connection. Review the 30 PSI Regulator when planning an auto-fill installation. Both items are sold separately.

Component Warranty Information

Warranty coverage depends on the individual components included in your fountain kit. The entire assembly does not carry one blanket lifetime warranty.

  • Achelous AquaBox® Basin: Blue Thumb's lifetime engineered-plastics warranty applies to qualifying manufacturing defects for the original purchaser.
  • Natural Stone Fountain: Our published stone-fountain limited warranty provides a minimum one-year workmanship warranty, subject to its conditions.
  • Fountain Pump: Our Blue Thumb Mag-Drive pump family carries a five-year limited warranty, excluding the impeller. Confirm the exact pump model supplied with your kit to establish the applicable coverage.

Proper installation, maintenance, and winter preparation are important. Review the official warranty document for exclusions and claim requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an existing pond to install this fountain?

No. Each kit includes a concealed recirculating reservoir that stores water beneath the fountain. The pump continuously circulates water through the stone bowl and back into the basin.

How do I know which bowl size is right for my landscape?

Start with the space available for the complete basin, not just the visible bowl. The 18" bowl offers the smallest installation footprint, while the 24" and 30" bowls create progressively larger displays. Allow extra space for excavation, water return, and maintenance access.

Will every natural stone bowl look exactly the same?

No. Natural stone varies in color, texture, and surface character. Those differences are part of the fountain's individual appearance.

Can I adjust how much water flows across the bowl?

Yes. The included flow-control valve allows you to adjust the fountain's water movement. We recommend adjusting the flow so water returns to the basin without excessive splashing outside the collection area.

How often will I need to refill the fountain?

Refill frequency depends on weather, evaporation, wind, and the water-flow setting. Check the reservoir regularly and keep the pump properly submerged. An optional auto-fill system can help maintain the water level automatically.

Can this fountain remain outside during winter?

Our Real Stone Fountain installation manual states that the stone fountain may remain outdoors during freezing weather. In areas with prolonged freezing conditions, the manual recommends removing the pump and storing it in water where it cannot freeze. Follow the full instructions for winterizing the reservoir and plumbing system.

Is lighting included with the fountain kit?
