Three sculptural columns with the character of real basalt—and far less weight

Create a layered outdoor water feature with three handcrafted glass fiber-reinforced concrete (GFRC) columns molded from real basalt. Each kit combines the selected column group with a concealed reservoir, matched Mag-Drive pump, independent flow control, plumbing, and polished pebbles.

Real-basalt surface character

The irregular profiles and textured faces come from molds of natural basalt, giving the grouping a rugged stone appearance without the full weight of quarried columns.

Matched as a complete system

The basin, pump, three-way manifold, tubing, fittings, screen, and finishing pebbles are selected around the three-column layout.

Balance each plume

Individual ball valves let you adjust the flow to each column for the water sound and appearance you prefer.

Site preparation and services

Plan to supply excavation and leveling tools, compactable base or backfill material as site conditions require, clean fill water, and a nearby grounded GFCI-protected 110-volt outlet. Plants, edging, mulch, additional decorative stone, and other surrounding landscape materials shown in photography are not included.

Optional upgrades

Automatic water top-off

The Fountain Basin Auto Fill Kit (ABDAUTO) can replenish water lost to evaporation and splash. A water-supply connection is required; kit sold separately.

Splash control

The Splash Apron for Reservoir/Basin (ABBSA36) helps return overspray to the basin. Included with LA7475; sold separately for LA7400 and LA7425.

Installation at a Glance

This is a built-in landscape fountain that requires excavation, a level supported base, water, and electrical access. Read the complete installation manual before marking the site or digging.

Choose the location

Confirm viewing angle, water access, a nearby grounded GFCI outlet, and underground utility locations.

Excavate and compact

Dig slightly wider and as deep as the basin. Remove roots and sharp stone, then level and compact the entire base.

Set the basin

Keep the reservoir fully supported and level. Orient pump access toward the electrical service before backfilling.

Place grates and plumbing

Install the center support, grates, screen, pump manifold, and three hoses without binding the lines.

Connect the columns

Hand-tighten each hose to its column. Never lift or carry a column by the internal hose-union assembly.

Fill, test, and finish

Fill to the bottom of the grate, start the pump, balance the three valves, test access, and then place the included pebbles.

Using a splash apron? The manual calls for setting the basin top approximately 2 inches below grade so the surrounding surface can slope toward the reservoir.

Care and Seasonal Ownership

Routine care

  • Keep the water near the bottom of the grate and never let it fall below the pump.
  • Rinse the pump pre-filter periodically; inspect and clean the impeller as needed.
  • Use a garden hose, mild soap, and a soft-bristle brush on the GFRC columns; avoid abrasive cleaning.
  • Run the fountain continuously for the first three to four weeks to help reduce efflorescence, brushing deposits while wet.

Freezing-weather care

  • In prolonged freezing conditions, disconnect and remove the pump.
  • Store the pump submerged in water in a location that remains above freezing.
  • Leave the buried basin approximately 50% full rather than draining it completely.
  • The GFRC columns may remain outdoors; drain and clean the basin and reconnect the pump after thawing in spring.
Electrical and handling note: Disconnect power before servicing the pump or plumbing. Do not lift the pump by its power cord, and do not lift a column by the hose-union assembly inside it.

Is this a complete fountain kit?

Yes. It includes the three selected GFRC columns, the Achelous reservoir and grate system, a matched pump, three-way flow control, tubing, fittings, sediment screen, installation instructions, and 200 lb of your selected polished pebbles. Site tools, water, electrical service, and surrounding landscape materials are not included.

How is GFRC different from natural basalt?

The columns are handcrafted from glass fiber-reinforced concrete in molds taken from real basalt. They reproduce the irregular stone form and texture while weighing about one-quarter as much as comparable natural-stone columns.

Which height group should I choose?

Choose Short for a lower 18-, 24-, and 30-inch grouping; Tall for a 24-, 30-, and 36-inch grouping; or Extra Tall for the strongest vertical presence at 24, 36, and 48 inches. Extra Tall also includes the splash apron.

How much installation space should I allow?

The buried basin measures approximately 51.5 inches in diameter by 16 inches high, even though its grate is described as 48 inches. Allow additional working room for excavation, compacted support, backfill, utilities, pump access, and the finished landscape. The untrimmed splash apron is 76 inches square.

Can I choose the rock and pebble colors?

Yes. Select Dapple Gray, Chestnut Brown, or Dark Espresso for the columns, then choose black or mixed polished pebbles. Chestnut Brown and Dark Espresso currently require two weeks of lead time.

Does the fountain need a permanent water line?

No. Fill the reservoir with clean water and the pump recirculates it. Check and top off the water as evaporation and splash occur, or add the separately sold ABDAUTO Auto Fill Kit and the required water-supply connection.

Is lighting included?

No. Lighting is optional and sold separately. Choose the PB2897 warm-white 3-light kit for exterior accent lighting or the PB2903 color-changing plume kit to replace the installed plume inserts and illuminate the water at the column tops.

Can the fountain remain outdoors during winter?

The GFRC columns may remain outdoors. In climates with prolonged freezing, remove the pump and store it submerged in water above freezing. Leave the buried basin approximately 50% full and follow the manual’s complete winterizing and spring-startup instructions.
