The Blue Thumb 2x2 Fountain Basin creates a compact, concealed reservoir beneath compatible small fountains. Its shallow 25-inch-square design holds 12 gallons while providing a supported top surface, hidden plumbing path and service access for a clean recirculating fountain installation.

Designed for Small Fountains
The 2x2 basin is intended for smaller, lightweight fountains that do not put a large amount of water in motion, giving compact installations an appropriately sized reservoir.
Only 8 Inches High
The shallow basin profile keeps the excavation comparatively compact while placing the recirculating water reservoir below the finished fountain area.
Built-In Service Access
The grate includes corner access for the pump, allowing routine pump and plumbing service without removing the entire fountain basin surface.
Before You Order: Match the Basin to the Fountain
The LA2000 is specifically intended for small fountains with minimal water movement. Its 250 lb. maximum static-load rating should not be used by itself to determine fountain compatibility.
Fountain weight, load distribution, water movement and splash pattern all affect reservoir selection. Heavy vase fountains, real-stone fountains and other concentrated point loads may require an AquaBox® or another Blue Thumb fountain reservoir. When your fountain kit specifies a particular basin, always follow the kit recommendation.

Planning Your 2x2 Basin Installation
Choose the Site Allow room for the complete fountain and its splash pattern. Locate underground utilities before excavation and plan convenient access to electrical service for the pump.
Excavate Dig for the basin so its top edge will finish approximately 1 inch above grade. In unstable soil, Blue Thumb specifies excavating an additional 3 inches and adding a 3-inch crushed-rock or gravel base.
Set & Level Place the basin in the excavation and confirm that it is level from front-to-back and side-to-side before backfilling.
Orient Pump Access Position the corner with the spinweld fitting toward the electrical source. This is the corner used for the pump and can also accommodate the optional Auto Fill Kit.
Install Pump & Plumbing For a compatible single-fountain installation, the pump sits on its side inside the compact basin. Follow the fountain kit instructions for the correct pump, valve, hose routing and connections.
Fill, Test & Finish Fill the reservoir, test the fountain and adjust the flow to minimize unnecessary splash before completing the surface with appropriate decorative stone.
Installation Tip: Keep the Basin Slightly Above Grade
Blue Thumb's installation instructions call for positioning the top edge of the basin approximately 1 inch above finished grade. This helps reduce surrounding soil and landscape runoff entering the reservoir. Level the basin carefully before backfilling because the finished fountain installation depends on a stable, level foundation.

Water Level, Maintenance & Winter Care
Check the water level regularly while the fountain is operating. Evaporation and splash naturally remove water from a recirculating system, so replenish the reservoir as needed or consider adding the optional automatic fill system.
Keep excessive soil, mulch, and organic debris from accumulating over the basin screen. Adjust fountain flow to minimize unnecessary splash, and keep the pump-access corner reachable so the pump can be inspected and serviced.
Freezing climates: Blue Thumb recommends removing the pump during prolonged freezing conditions and storing it in water where it will not freeze. Do not completely empty the buried reservoir for winter. Follow the current Blue Thumb installation instructions for complete seasonal-care procedures.

Great Basin Replacement
I needed to replace the leaky basin in my Klamath fountain (entirely my fault---neglected to drain it for several winters, allowing the water to become ice, which caused multiple cracks, and therefore, leaks.) I was really happy to find this replacement at a very reasonable price, including shipping. Great service: arrived in a very timely fashion. The basin's been somewhat modified (improved) over the original, but the dimensions are still the same, making it easy to pull the old one out and drop the new one in. The construction is first-rate and sturdy and should perform well for many years...provided I am responsible and remember to do the drain thing each winter!
