Trimmable debris barrier for compatible fountain basins

Altum-Achelous AquaBox® Sediment Screen

Add or replace the mesh layer between your basin grate and decorative stone. This approximately 52-inch-square plastic screen trims to the layout of compatible Blue Thumb basins and helps reduce leaves, mulch, dirt and small debris entering the reservoir.

SKU: ABSCREEN

Size: Approx. 52 × 52 in.

Material: Plastic mesh

Fit: Trim to basin layout

Check Your Basin Before Ordering

All new Altum and Achelous AquaBox® basins include a sediment screen as standard equipment, and Blue Thumb’s current 4x4 Fountain Basin listing also includes a screen. Purchase this separate screen for a compatible existing basin that does not have one, or to replace a worn or damaged screen.

A Simple Layer That Makes Routine Care Easier

The open mesh allows returning water to reach the hidden reservoir while creating an added barrier beneath the decorative finish.

Reduce Debris Entry

Helps limit leaves, mulch, dirt and small stones that can work through openings in the basin grate.

Trim Around the Layout

Cut the mesh to match the basin shape and make openings for plumbing, pump access and support components.

Keep Service Points Reachable

Plan the cuts before adding stone so the pump and other serviceable equipment remain accessible.

Before You Order

This listing is for the sediment screen only. The fountain basin, grate, pump, plumbing, fountain and decorative stone are not included.

Good Fit For

  • A compatible older basin that does not already have a screen
  • Replacing a compatible screen that is worn, torn or damaged
  • A custom grate layout that can be covered by the 52-inch-square material

Confirm First

  • Check whether your basin already includes a sediment screen
  • Measure and identify plumbing, supports and pump-access locations
  • Plan how the pump-access cover will remain reachable after finishing

Verified Compatible Blue Thumb Basins

The screen is supplied oversized for smaller compatible basins and is cut during installation. Use the links below to confirm the basin you own or are planning around.

Plan the Screen Before the Decorative Finish

Complete basin and fountain setup according to the applicable installation instructions. Fit the screen before the grate is covered with decorative stone.

1

Dry-Fit the Mesh

Lay the screen over the basin grate or support surface and identify the final outside shape.

2

Mark Every Opening

Locate fountain plumbing, pump-access panels, support columns and other components that must stay clear.

3

Trim to Fit

Cut the plastic mesh with scissors or a utility knife. If grate holes are still needed, cut the screen before drilling.

4

Test Access, Then Finish

Confirm the screen lies relatively flat and service points remain reachable before adding decorative stone.

Care and Maintenance

Keep Water Return Open

  • Remove leaves and loose landscape debris before it accumulates beneath the decorative stone.
  • Inspect the screen during routine basin and pump service.
  • Clean or replace the screen if buildup begins to interfere with water returning to the reservoir.
  • Keep pump-access covers and other service points clear and easy to reach.

Questions About an Older Basin?

Blue Thumb’s Sales and Technical Team can help confirm compatibility before you trim or install the screen. Have your basin name, approximate dimensions and photos available when possible.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy this with a new compatible basin?

Usually not. Blue Thumb states that all new Altum and Achelous AquaBox® basins include a sediment screen as standard equipment, and the current 4x4 Fountain Basin listing also includes a screen. This separate item is intended for compatible existing basins or replacement use.

Which basins are compatible?

Blue Thumb lists compatibility with all Achelous AquaBox® basin options, the Altum AquaBox® Basin and the 4x4 Fountain Basin. The material is trimmed to the specific basin and component layout.

Is this a complete fountain basin?

No. This listing is for the plastic mesh sediment screen only. A basin, grate, pump, plumbing, fountain and decorative stone are not included.

Can I cut the screen to fit around plumbing and pump access?

Yes. The approximately 52 × 52-inch plastic mesh can be trimmed with scissors or a utility knife. Plan and cut openings for plumbing, access panels, supports and other basin components.

Where does the sediment screen go?

Position it over the basin grate or support surface and beneath the decorative stone. Keep it relatively flat and do not block the pump-access cover or other serviceable components.

Will the screen eliminate basin cleaning?

No. It helps reduce debris entering the reservoir, but the screen, pump and basin still require inspection and routine care. Clean or replace the screen if buildup begins to restrict water return.

Can I use the screen with an unlisted basin?

Compatibility has only been verified for the named Achelous, Altum and 4x4 Blue Thumb basins. Contact Blue Thumb with the basin model and dimensions before ordering for another application.
