How Green Matala Filtration Works

Your Elite Skimmer uses two stages of mechanical debris collection. The mesh debris net catches larger material such as leaves and twigs, while the green Matala mat helps collect smaller particles before water enters the pump chamber.

The coarse, semi-open Matala structure allows water to pass through while providing filtration surface area. Its rigid, tangled fibers are designed to resist sludge accumulation and simplify cleaning.

• Not included: Stainless steel mat holder, mesh debris net, skimmer housing, and other skimmer components.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular inspection helps maintain water flow through your Elite Skimmer.

• Inspect regularly: Check the mat and debris net for accumulated material. A lower water level in the pump chamber than in the pond can indicate restricted filtration.
• Clean when needed: Turn off the pump before servicing the skimmer. Remove the filter mat and rinse away trapped debris before reinstalling it.
• Adjust cleaning frequency: Our Elite Skimmer instructions suggest that cleaning may typically be needed every 10–14 days, depending on leaves, fish load, and other pond conditions.
• Seasonal care: In climates with prolonged freezing, our skimmer instructions recommend rinsing and storing the filter mat during winter shutdown.

Replace the mat if damage or deterioration prevents it from functioning properly. Follow the official skimmer instructions when removing and reinstalling filtration components.
