Replacement Mat for 20" Crystal Falls & 8" Crystal Skimmer

Restore the fine-debris filtration stage in a compatible Blue Thumb pond skimmer or waterfall box. This pre-sized white filter mat replaces the original mat in the 8-inch Crystal Skimmer / DIY Pond Skimmer 180 and the 20-inch Crystal Falls / DIY Pond Waterfall 2000.

Why Replace the Filter Mat?

Captures Finer Debris

In the Crystal Skimmer, the mesh net collects larger leaves and sticks first; this mat then helps catch smaller particles before water reaches the pump chamber.

Pre-Sized for the Correct Fit

The 12.7-inch × 16-inch profile is sized for the two compatible Blue Thumb units listed below, so you do not need to cut bulk filter media to shape.

Supports Routine Pond Care

A clean, intact mat helps water move through the filtration system. Replace the original when wear, damage or embedded debris prevents effective cleaning and flow.

What’s Included

One CRYMAT replacement filter mat.

Not included: Skimmer or waterfall housing, mesh debris net, media bag, biological media, pump, plumbing, lid and installation hardware.

Placement & Routine Care

Stop the Pump

Disconnect power before reaching into the skimmer or waterfall box. Remove the existing media and note its orientation.

Place the Mat

In PB1311, slide the white mat into position in front of the pump, behind the mesh debris net. In PB1298, position it horizontally in the bottom of the waterfall box beneath the media bag.

Inspect the Flow

Restart the system and confirm normal water movement. In a skimmer, a pump-chamber water level lower than the pond can indicate that the mat or net needs cleaning.

Cleaning Guidance

  • Check skimmer media weekly and clean it when debris begins to restrict flow; the typical interval is about 10–14 days, but pond conditions vary.
  • Rinse away collected debris without soap or bleach.
  • Inspect the mat during spring startup and replace it when it is worn, damaged or no longer cleans effectively.

Is this the correct mat for a 14-inch Crystal Falls or Serenity unit?

No. Those units use a different 12-inch × 12.7-inch × 1.25-inch replacement mat. Confirm your model before ordering.

What comes with my order?

You receive one CRYMAT replacement filter mat. The skimmer or waterfall box and all other media, hardware, plumbing and equipment are sold separately.

Where does the mat go in the Crystal Skimmer?

With power disconnected, slide the white mat into position in front of the pump. The black mesh debris net sits in front of the white mat so larger debris is collected first.

Where does the mat go in the 20-inch Crystal Falls?

Position the mat horizontally in the bottom of the waterfall box. The media bag sits above it. Review the Crystal Series instructions for the full assembly sequence.

How often should I clean the mat?

For skimmer use, inspect the net and mat weekly and clean them when debris restricts flow. Cleaning is often needed every 10–14 days, but leaf fall, storms, fish load and feeding can shorten that interval.
