Filtration and Waterfall in One
Water enters through the lower plumbing connection, moves through the filter media and returns to the pond across the detachable 30-inch spillway.
Made in the USA
Build a broad, natural-looking pond waterfall while adding biological filtration to the recirculating system. The Large Elite Waterfall Box is sized for ponds up to 6,000 gallons, accepts up to 10,000 GPH and includes a landscape lid that helps the installed box disappear into the surrounding rockwork and planting.
Water enters through the lower plumbing connection, moves through the filter media and returns to the pond across the detachable 30-inch spillway.
Two side spinweld fittings let you bring the feed line in from either direction. The second fitting can be plugged, used for a second pump line or configured for back-flushing.
The faceted box profile and included landscape lid help integrate the filter into a berm, stream head or pond edge while preserving access for maintenance.
The supplied parts support installation of the box and its liner connection. The biological media that fills the mesh bag is selected separately.
Made in the USA.
Choose the model around the pond volume, planned waterfall width and actual pump flow at the installed head height. Maximum flow is a box limit, not a promise that every pump will produce that flow after plumbing and elevation losses.

Review the complete installation guide before excavation or liner cutting. This built-in component must be supported, leveled, plumbed and sealed correctly.
Place the waterfall opposite the skimmer for pond circulation, either at the pond edge or at the head of a stream. Confirm viewing angles and access for future media cleaning.
Compact the support area to reduce settling. Keep the box level from side to side and tilt it slightly forward—about one-quarter bubble—so water travels evenly toward the spillway.
Choose the inlet side, tape the threaded male adapter and plug the unused fitting unless it will serve a second pump line or back-flush setup. Join clean flexible PVC with the appropriate PVC primer and cement.
Leave a little liner slack, clean the bonding surfaces, apply the included silicone, fasten the weir with the stainless screws and only then trim the liner opening. Follow the manual’s fastening sequence.
Set the two Matala mats horizontally in the bottom. Fill the mesh bag with selected biological media and place it above the mats.
Install the landscape lid, complete the rockwork and use black waterfall foam where needed to direct visible flow. Test for even spillway flow and leaks before final landscaping.
Inspect the system as pond conditions change. When the waterfall media needs cleaning, rinse it with pond water when possible; chlorinated tap water can damage the beneficial bacteria.
The installation guide calls for a thorough waterfall-media cleaning about once per year, when water is coldest or below 50°F. Actual maintenance frequency varies with debris, fish load and feeding.
In climates with prolonged freezing, remove the pond pump and follow its storage instructions. Rinse and store the removable media for winter, then reinstall it during spring startup.

This official Blue Thumb pond-kit installation guide demonstrates how an Elite Waterfall Box fits into a complete pond build. Use the model-specific PDF above for PB1090 dimensions, 2- or 3-inch plumbing and exact waterfall-box assembly.

Our Sales/Tech Team can help you review pond volume, planned waterfall width, plumbing size, pump flow at total dynamic head and the other components needed for your installation.
No. PB1090 is the biological waterfall box and its listed installation hardware. The pump, skimmer, flexible PVC, liner, underlayment, loose biological media, primer and cement, waterfall foam, rocks and gravel, electrical service and site work are selected separately.
The maximum recommended flow is 10,000 GPH. Size the pump by its delivered flow at your installation’s total dynamic head—not by the pump’s zero-head rating—and stay within the waterfall box limit.
It is rated for ponds up to 6,000 gallons. Fish load, feeding, debris, sunlight, circulation and maintenance also affect filtration needs, so contact our Sales/Tech Team when the pond will carry a heavy biological load.
Yes. The installation guide states that the 30-inch Elite Waterfall accepts either 2- or 3-inch flexible PVC. The box has two 3-inch spinweld fittings; use the supplied plumbing adapter arrangement and confirm the complete plumbing plan before installation.
Two green Matala filter mats and one mesh media bag are included. Loose biological media for the bag is not included. Our sizing guidance recommends 5 cubic feet of Bacti-Twist for the 30-inch box.
Place it opposite the skimmer to encourage circulation through the pond. It may sit at the pond edge or at the top of a stream. Compact the base, keep the box level from side to side and maintain access for media service.
Inspect it according to pond conditions. The guide recommends a thorough cleaning about once per year when the water is coldest or below 50°F. Rinse with pond water when possible so chlorine does not harm the beneficial bacteria.
Blue Thumb’s lifetime limited plastics warranty covers Blue Thumb-branded engineered-plastic waterfall filters against manufacturing defects for the original purchaser, subject to proper installation and the complete written terms.
