Filters While It Builds the Waterfall
Water rises through the media from below, helping capture suspended material and providing surface area for beneficial bacteria before it returns to the pond over the spillway.
Professional-grade biological pond filter and waterfall starter
Build the head of a substantial pond waterfall while adding mechanical and biological filtration for ponds up to 6,000 gallons. This exact #29384 configuration combines a wide 28-inch spillway, dual 3-inch plumbing ports and a rounded, rotationally molded polyethylene body designed for high-flow pond systems.
Water rises through the media from below, helping capture suspended material and providing surface area for beneficial bacteria before it returns to the pond over the spillway.
The dual 3-inch bulkheads accept the included 3-inch PVC slip fittings and give installers flexible plumbing options for systems flowing up to 15,000 GPH.
The rounded body is easier to blend into a waterfall berm, while the included rock-and-plant tray supports small boulders, gravel and aquatic plants used to conceal the top.
The pump, skimmer or other prefilter, liner, plumbing pipe, BioBalls, stone, gravel, plants and installation labor are sold separately. This model is 40 inches long by 45 inches wide by 29.5 inches high, so plan room for the filter body, plumbing, waterfall berm, backfill and future service access.
Silicone packing note: Aquascape's current product page lists fish-safe silicone as included, but the official installation manual says silicone is not included. To avoid an installation delay, we recommend having compatible fish-safe silicone available.
Both models use dual 3-inch connections and are rated for ponds up to 6,000 gallons. Choose according to the flow, spillway, filtration media and footprint that fit your pond design.

View the Blue Thumb Large 30 in. Elite Waterfall BoxChoose the Aquascape Signature Series 6000 when the design calls for flow above 10,000 GPH, a rock-and-plant tray, or coordination with an Aquascape ecosystem-pond layout. Choose the Blue Thumb PB1090 when you prefer a slightly wider 30-inch spillway, a smaller overall filter footprint, included Matala media and a landscape lid. Confirm total dynamic head, desired waterfall appearance and downstream plumbing before selecting a pump.
Place the BioFalls near the pond edge and orient the spillway toward the main viewing area. When paired with a skimmer, Aquascape recommends placing the BioFalls across the pond from it to support circulation.
Install the two reverse-threaded bulkheads with the rubber gaskets inside the filter. Set the body at or slightly below grade on firm ground, connect the plumbing, then recheck level before compacting backfill.
The reversible lip can face outward for a straightforward ledge or inward for more freedom when placing large waterfall stones. Clean and dry the sealing surfaces, use fish-safe silicone, and allow at least one hour of cure time before adding water.
Place the two mats on the support rack. Fill the included media nets with separately purchased biological media without overfilling them; Aquascape recommends 400 BioBalls for this model.
Frame the spillway with boulders, direct water over the desired stones with pond-and-waterfall foam, and run the system before trimming excess liner. Premature trimming can create avoidable leaks.
Use the rock tray for gravel, small boulders and aquatic plants, but keep the front opening accessible so the mats can be removed during annual maintenance.
The Aquascape manual calls for an additional liner piece approximately 4 feet by 6 feet when adding the BioFalls to an existing pond. The liner must reach the spillway and overlap the pond edge with enough material to prevent water loss.
Review the model-family manual before installation. It covers items 29319, 29384 and 09020, so follow the callouts for the Signature Series 6000 with 3-inch bulkheads.

No. The pump, skimmer or other prefilter, pipe and check valve are sold separately. Select the pump from the waterfall design's required flow after accounting for total dynamic head; do not exceed the BioFalls maximum rating of 15,000 GPH.
No. Three filter-media nets are included, but biological media is sold separately. Aquascape recommends 400 BioBalls for the Signature Series 6000.
Yes. Plan for plumbing from the pond or prefilter to the BioFalls and an additional liner piece approximately 4 feet by 6 feet to connect the waterfall spillway back to the pond. Site conditions may require a larger liner section.
Yes. The reversible lip supports multiple waterfall-building approaches. For an outward-facing lip, the manual permits a piece of natural slate no more than 3/4 inch thick, secured and directed with pond-and-waterfall foam.
Aquascape designs it for approximately annual cleaning when a Signature Series Skimmer or Pondless® Waterfall Vault prefilters large debris. Do not clean the mats or media more than once a year, especially with chlorinated tap water.
The BioFalls filter carries a limited lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects when properly installed and maintained. Plastic internal parts carry one-year coverage. Filter pads and media are consumable and not covered; proof of purchase and other exclusions apply.
