This listing is for the Cascade Falls Box, not a complete pond-less waterfall kit.
The box includes its diffuser mat, landscape lid, detachable weir, factory-installed inlet fittings, and installation hardware. A working pond-less waterfall system also requires a properly sized pump, underground reservoir, liner, plumbing, and other installation materials.
If you are building an entirely new waterfall, our Elite Medium 22" Cascading Falls Kit provides a coordinated system built around this spillway size.
What Makes the Elite Cascade Box Different?
Controlled Water Distribution
The black Matala diffuser mat helps distribute incoming water across the waterfall opening, encouraging a consistent flow over the weir. This is especially useful when building natural-looking rock waterfalls and streams.
Designed to Disappear into the Landscape
The landscape lid helps conceal the waterfall box behind surrounding stone, gravel, mulch, or appropriate plantings. The detachable weir allows the liner to be secured to the front of the box during installation.

Installation Planning
Proper placement, plumbing, and liner attachment are important to achieving a consistent waterfall and minimizing water loss around the spillway. The following overview highlights the main installation considerations for this box.

Choose and Prepare the Location
Position the Cascade Box at the beginning of your waterfall or stream. Compact the supporting ground to help prevent settling. The box should be level from side to side and tilted slightly forward as specified in our installation manual.

Connect the Plumbing
The box has two factory-installed 2" spinweld fittings. Connect the feed line to the selected inlet using the appropriate adapter and thread sealant. Plug the unused inlet, or use the second connection for an additional pump line when the system is designed for it.

Attach the Waterfall Liner
Bring the stream liner up to the front of the box. Follow the installation instructions for positioning the liner, applying the included silicone, and securing the detachable weir with the stainless steel screws.

Finish the Landscape and Test
Conceal the landscape lid with appropriate finishing materials and complete the surrounding rockwork. Fill the reservoir, start the pump, and check the water flow and all plumbing and liner connections before completing the installation.
Important Pump and Plumbing Considerations
The 5,500 GPH specification is the maximum rated flow through this Cascade Box. It is not a required pump size or a guarantee of flow at the installed waterfall.
Actual flow depends on the pump, elevation change, pipe length, pipe diameter, fittings, and other system restrictions.
The box is designed for 2" flexible PVC connections. Our standard 2" PVC flex hose listing recommends a maximum flow of 5,400 GPH, so plumbing capacity should also be considered when designing a system near the box's maximum rating.

Maintenance and Long-Term Care
The Cascade Box is designed for straightforward access to its diffuser media. Periodically inspect the box and remove accumulated leaves, debris, and sediment that may restrict water distribution.
- Inspect the spillway and stream for debris that could divert water outside the liner.
- Remove and clean the Matala diffuser material at least annually, following our maintenance guide.
- Check plumbing connections and the liner attachment for leaks.
- Maintain sufficient reservoir water to prevent the pump from running dry.
- Follow the applicable pump and complete system instructions for seasonal shutdown and winter care.
Replacement black Matala media is available separately if the original material becomes worn or damaged.

Is the Medium 22" Elite Cascade Falls Box a complete waterfall kit?
No. This product includes the Cascade Falls Box and its associated components and installation hardware. You will need the remaining components of a properly designed pond-less waterfall system. We also offer a complete 22" Elite Cascading Falls Kit.
What size pump should I use with this box?
The box supports a maximum flow of 5,500 GPH, but the appropriate pump depends on your desired waterfall appearance, elevation, plumbing length, and friction losses. A pump's advertised maximum flow is not necessarily the amount of water it will deliver at the installed waterfall.
Do I need to connect plumbing to both inlets?
No. The installation guide allows one inlet to supply water while the unused connection is plugged. The second inlet may also be used for another pump line when the system is designed for that arrangement.
Can I install multiple Cascade Boxes side by side?
Yes. Multiple Elite Cascade Falls Boxes can be positioned side by side to create wider waterfall designs. Each box must be properly supported, connected, and supplied with suitable water flow.
Can this replace a biological waterfall filter on a fish pond?
This Cascade Box is intended primarily for pond-less waterfall applications. Its diffuser mat helps distribute water, but the box should not automatically be considered a replacement for the biological filtration required by a fish pond.
Which replacement Matala mat fits this model?
The replacement is MT22BK, the black Matala diffuser mat for the 22" Elite Cascade Falls Box. It measures approximately 7.6" × 24". Select the 22" option when ordering replacement media.
Is the 22-inch measurement the overall width of the box?
