Replacing Blue Thumb Fountain Clear? Algae D-Solv is the current replacement listed by Blue Thumb. Always follow the Algae D-Solv label and dosage rather than directions from an older product.

Read the Label Before You Treat

  • Use only in self-contained aquariums, ornamental ponds and fountains with no outflow after treatment.
  • In ponds, maintain continuous vigorous aeration. During warm weather and high water temperatures, vigorous 24-hour aeration is required.
  • Not safe for snails, shrimp, clams, other crustaceans or mollusks.
  • Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing, and wash thoroughly after handling.
  • Do not exceed the label dose. Federal law requires this pesticide to be used consistently with its labeling.

Target the Algae You Can See

Broad Algae Control

Formulated for existing string algae, blanketweed and the single-celled algae that cause green water.

Copper-Free Formula

Contains no copper and will not harm fish or live ornamental plants when used exactly as directed.

Simple Volume-Based Dose

Measure 1 fluid ounce for every 360 gallons, then apply evenly around the edge or where circulation is strongest.

Choose the Right Bottle Size

Each size uses the same application rate. Choose based on your water volume and how many treatments you expect to make. The total gallons shown are the cumulative volume one full bottle can treat at the labeled dose.

How to Apply Algae D-Solv

Use these planning steps as a quick overview, then follow the complete directions and precautions on the label for your selected bottle.

Rectangular water volume: length × width × average depth (feet) × 7.5 = gallons

Calculate the Water Volume

Measure the water feature, calculate its gallons and base the dose on actual water volume—not surface area.

Remove Excess Algae

For heavy growth, manually remove as much algae as practical before treatment to reduce the amount of decaying organic matter.

Start Continuous Aeration

Make sure the pond has vigorous aeration from a waterfall, fountain or aeration device before applying. Keep aeration running continuously.

Measure the Dose

Apply 1 fluid ounce per 360 gallons. Do not use more than the recommended amount for your water volume.

Distribute Evenly

Pour the measured treatment evenly around the pond edges or into the area with the strongest circulation.

Monitor and Maintain

Watch fish and aeration as algae breaks down. Wait at least 3 days between treatments; for maintenance, repeat the labeled dose once per week.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much Algae D-Solv should I use?

Use 1 fluid ounce for every 360 gallons of pond or fountain water. Calculate the actual water volume and do not exceed the labeled dose.

Which types of algae does it treat?

Algae D-Solv targets existing string algae, blanketweed and the single-celled algae that cause green water.

Can I use it in a pond with koi, goldfish or plants?

It will not harm fish or live ornamental plants when used exactly as directed. Ponds must have continuous vigorous aeration; warm weather and high water temperatures require vigorous 24-hour aeration.

Is it safe for snails, shrimp or clams?

No. The product label states that Algae D-Solv is not safe for snails, shrimp, clams, other crustaceans or mollusks.

Can I use it in a pond or fountain with an outflow?

No. The label limits use to self-contained aquariums, ornamental ponds and fountains that will have no outflow after treatment.

How often can I apply it?

Use it for existing algae growth, wait at least 3 days between treatments, and repeat the labeled dose once per week for maintenance. Always follow the directions on your bottle.

Should I remove algae before treatment?

Yes, when growth is heavy. Removing excess algae first reduces the amount of decaying organic matter and the associated drop in oxygen as algae breaks down.

Does Algae D-Solv replace Blue Thumb Fountain Clear?

Yes. Blue Thumb lists CrystalClear Algae D-Solv as the replacement for Blue Thumb Fountain Clear. Use the current Algae D-Solv label and dosage instructions.

Where can this product be shipped?
